Hi, my name is Erica Thomas, founder and owner of Lily’s Helpers Home Care, proudly serving families across Middle Georgia, including the Macon area. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare and respiratory therapy, my journey to home care began long before I opened my doors — it began at home, with my grandmother.

How My Story Began: From Respiratory Therapist to Caregiver

Before founding Lily’s Helpers in 2019, I spent more than two decades working in healthcare, specializing in respiratory therapy. Throughout my career, I had the privilege of serving patients with a wide range of conditions, including during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, where I worked on the front lines caring for individuals battling respiratory disease.

My experience includes:

• 20+ years as a Respiratory Therapist
• Serving as Respiratory Supervisor at a Level 1 hospital for over 8 years
• A Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management
• Firsthand experience caring for patients with COPD, asthma, and complex respiratory ailments

But my most defining experience came from caring for someone I loved deeply — my grandmother, Lily Pearl Walker.

The Caregiver I Didn’t Know I Already Was

My grandmother struggled with COPD and arthritis, and without even realizing it, I became her caregiver. From running errands to taking her to church, I simply did what came naturally — loving her, supporting her, and protecting her quality of life.

In 2012, when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given only three months to live, my family and I came together to care for her around the clock. Even while working 12-hour shifts at the hospital, I rotated nights at her bedside, making sure she was never alone.

Hospice helped, but as many families know, hospice doesn’t provide 24-hour care. We filled the gaps — as daughters, nieces, grandchildren, and devoted caregivers.

It was during these long nights, holding her hand and cherishing every moment, that I realized something life-changing:

Families need more support. More care. More help at home.

Not just medical tasks — but compassionate, everyday support that preserves dignity, comfort, and connection.

That realization planted the seed for Lily’s Helpers.

Why I Founded Lily’s Helpers Home Care

While caring for my grandmother — and seeing families at the hospital struggle through similar challenges — I recognized the need for true in-home supportive care in our community.

So in honor of my grandmother, Lily Pearl Walker, I founded:
